Strain sensors

Strain sensors are designed for application areas in which there is a need to measure the deformation due to external forces acting on an object of interest.

Different strain sensor types are available, each designed to fulfill a specific need and application area.

Strain sensors can be either spot welded, screwed or glued to the object. Each strain is dual ended such that a large number of strain sensors can be easily wired into a single array.

For extra accuracy an intrinsic temperature sensor is added to the strain sensor.

SP 39 T

DSC_0013_edited.jpg

Fiber Bragg Grating based short gauge spot-weldable strain sensor.

A very robust sensor, which can measure very small strains and displacements with high accuracy.

Integrated temperature compensation, and can be connected in series with more strain sensors or other sensors.

  • sensitivity 1.2 pm/microstrain

  • range -2000 to + 2000 microstrain

  • accuracy <0.5% full scale

  • integrated temperature compensation

  • rugged, stainless steel housing

  • IP 67 protection

SW 40 NT

SW 40 NT Spot weldable strain array sens

Small sized fiber Bragg Grating based strain sensor. Sensor can be glued or spot welded to a surface.

This sensor can be configured with a single strain sensor or, per request, this sensor can be configured with an array of strain sensors to measure the strain at multiple points.

  • sensitivity 1.2 pm/microstrain

  • range -1500 to + 1500 microstrain

  • accuracy <0.5% full scale

  • integrated temperature compensation

  • stainless steel (304) 0.2 mm thick

  • optional: integrated temperature compensation

SC 1000 T

SC 1000 T Strain cable sensor.jpg

Fiber Bragg Grating based long gauge strain sensor with 1m measuring base (gauge length). Developed specifically for measurements of large structures.

Measures strain between its anchoring brackets and is therefore immune to local defects in the substrate.

  • sensitivity 1.4 pm/microstrain

  • range -5000 to + 5000 microstrain

  • accuracy <0.35% full scale

  • integrated temperature compensation

  • rugged, stainless steel (316L)

  • IP 67 protection

SC 100 NT

SC100NT.jpg

Fiber Bragg Grating based short gauge strain sensor with a 90- 110mm measuring base (gauge length).

Is capable of measuring length changes in µɛ or µm between its anchoring points.

  • Embeddable into concrete or surface mounted

  • Double ended

  • Adjustable pre-strain during installation

  • Various anchor designs

  • Used for:

    • strain monitoring

    • Rebar strain, stress, or force monitoring

    • Wall-tie monitoring
